If you are a neurologist or a physician involved in multiple sclerosis patients management, you are familiar with EDSS score rating.
EDSS score, published by Kurtzke et al., is widely used to assess disability in MS patients. It is based on the rating of several functional system scores (FSS), including ambulation. Then the EDSS can be determined depending on the combination of FSS and ambulatory function.
The main drawback of this score is the risk of inter and intra rater variability, mainly because the rating can sometimes be complex and lead to errors, as shown in the example below for sensory FSS.
The solution we propose in our app, Easy EDSS score, consists in simply describing the neurological exam for each function. Then the score is automatically determined.
The bottom toolbar also allows, if wanted, to enter the score manually.
Easy EDSS score is available in the AppStore ($0.99). Don’t hesitate to share your comments if you tried it!
